Performa has also commissioned Yvonne Rainer & Emily Coates to reimagine a seminal work from Rainer’s oeuvre, “Parts of Some Sextets” an early work from 1965, reconstructed from notes, diagrams, and photographs now housed in the Getty Archives.
A piece centered around 12 mattresses, a 17th century American diarist and the madness of action. The original cast was Lucinda Childs, Judith Dunn, Sally Gross, Deborah, Hay, Tony Holder, Robert Morris, Steve Paxton, Yvonne Rainer, Robert Rauschenberg, and Joseph Schlichter. This iteration will be envisioned by Rachel Bernsen, Emily Coates, Brittany Engel-Adams, Patrick Gallagher, Shayla Vie Jenkins, Jon Kinzel, Liz Magic Laser, Nick Mauss, Mary Kate Sheehan, Timothy Ward and myself (in Rauschenberg’s role).
